(37,41) RIOBAMBA TRAIN TOUR 2D/1N
DEPARTURES:
TUESDAY, THURSDAY AND SATURDAY
Day
1: 7am pickup
from hotel, stopping for breakfast at colonial hacienda La
Cienega (built 1675). Drive south through the avenue of the
volcanoes to an authentic Indian market. Depending on the
day we will visit a market at: Latacunga (Tuesday and Saturday),
Pujilí (Wednesday and Sunday), Saquisilí (Thursday) or a visit
to Cotopaxi National Park. Both include lunch at Rumipamba
de las Rosas Inn
and continue our trip to Guano (famous for its rugs and hand
woven tapestries) and Riobamba. Overnight at Inn Abraspungu.
Day
2:
After breakfast, 6am pickup to drive to the station
and board the train (the Ecuadorian train service allows you
to decide in between one of the two seating compartments,
called first class carriages by ENFE Empresa Nacional de Ferrocarriles
Ecuatorianos) and for the more adventurous that want a better
view, they can ride on top of one of the two cargo carriages.
This 6 hour ride passes by the most fertile agricultural land
of Ecuador and by 12 stations until we reach the 1000 foot
cliff of the Devil's Nose and return to Alausí station (place
where the car is waiting for us). After lunch in Alausí we
return by road
to Quito. An optional ride on the private Metropolitan Expresso
instead of the local train is available.
NOTE:
THIS TRIP COULD DEPART ON MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY AND
SUNDAY BUT WOULD NOT INCLUDE THE TRAIN RIDE .

Morning start to visit Gualaceo Valley and Chordeleg
(famous for its gold jewelry manufacture). Lunch at downtown
Cuenca and city tour. Visit to the most famous panama hat
factory of Ecuador and
afternoon flight to Quito.
Transfer to hotel in Quito.
