Ecuador's Coastal Region is more than beautiful beaches of warm waters all year round; it is the land of the highest mangroves in the world and one of Ecuador's beauties.

Guayaquil, the main trading port of our country, Guayaquil is considered as the "Economical capital of Ecuador" and offers many facilities for tourists and business travelers.

Machalilla National Park, with its white sand beaches and endemic vegetation include attractions such as "Isla de la Plata", a small island where some of the Galapagos species as blue footed bobbies thrive in abundance, and where whales come every year from Antartica to breed, from July to September. Some important archeological sites include Salango and Chirije.

Traveling along the coast offers you the opportunity of visiting archeological sites of pre-Columbian cultures such as Valdivia, Chorrera and Tolita. The past is mixed with the present, living in the traditions of Indian communities; the Chachis and Awa are some of them.

Lying to the west of the Andes, a huge variety of tropical fruits such as papaya, passion fruit, maracuya, guava, melon, watermelon, mango, tamarindo, guanabana, naranjilla, sweet pepino and much more; are cultivated or grow freely on the coastal fields. Its soil is the center of huge plantations of bananas, coffee, cacao, African palm and rice.

During September, Whales can be seen close to Machalilla National Park. An Island called "La Plata" is part of the park and offers the opportunity of enjoying bird watching and a wonderful diving experience.
