ECUADOR - NORTHERN HIGHLANDS 

The most famous and largest Indigenous market in South America. Located in the northern lake district, Otavalo is famous for its native art and handicrafts.

San Pablo lake and community lies at the foot of Imbabura volcano; Mojanda lakes are surrounded by bleak plateau (paramo) and humid Andean forests; Cuicocha is part of Cotacachi - Cayapas Ecological Reserve and Yahuarcocha which means blood lake, was the scenery of an historical Indian battle. 

San Juan de Iluman and Peguche are small Indian villages known for its Shamanes, quacks or wizards.

As well as the Indian, black communities have their own culture. Their traditions are displayed in a hot valley called, "El Chota".

The Northern Highlands are the scenery of Indian cultures living in a precarious way, showed in activities such as cooking with wood and sharing their rooms with guinea pigs; all this surrounded by the Andes and combined with colonial towns and small patches of different crops giving live and color to the hills.
